Hello, my name is Jacob Newell.\u00a0 I formerly went by Gu Shen Yu (\u8c37\u795e\u94b0), a name I received at Daoist ordination, but really I’m just a nameless stream flowing along with the Great River of immortality.\u00a0 So call me Nameless Stream, Wuming Chuan (\u7121\u540d\u5ddd) for now.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve studied with numerous teachers over the past 30 years\u00a0and found my home practice in Laozi\u2019s wuweidao – I have inherited a suite of traditional practices of hygiene, meditation, & ritual that support and express Laozi’s teaching.\u00a0 I call my school Old Oak School of Dao – my website is www.oldoakdao.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n Wuweidao is a contemplative path of\u00a0communing with our original nature (Dao-De<\/a>).\u00a0 We have formal practice methods passed down from the long-flowing stream of Daoist tradition, but more importantly we take an uncontrived, natural view of reality inspired by and supported by direct lineage transmission.<\/p>\n I started this blog because I want to share the perspective of our tradition.\u00a0 My wuweidao lineage teacher was Liu Ming, a westerner who inherited a 1,000-year old aristocratic family tradition from Shanxi province from a hermit refugee in Taiwan.\u00a0 There\u2019s a lot of chatter out there about Daoism, and it\u2019s easy to find ourselves confused.\u00a0 My numerous teachers have provided me with\u00a0a base for correct practice, which I am happy to share with\u00a0you, if you are interested in this path.<\/p>\n I am based in northern California and am working on several projects including a training manual that covers different aspects of Daoist study & cultivation \u2013 academics, philosophy, hygiene, meditation, & ritual.\u00a0 I am also hosting a wuweidao cultivation group<\/a> in Santa Rosa, CA, to support the practice of Zuowang<\/a>.\u00a0 I’m calling my more extensive apprenticeship the Original Root\u00a0Investiture<\/a>.\u00a0 A central feature of the apprenticeship\u00a0is my unpublished translation & commentary of the Dao De Jing, which opens up the text for practical use in meditation & qi-cultivation.\u00a0 Adepts who complete the program are eligible to become vested members of Original Root Order<\/a>, a group I have established to carry forward the unique transmission I received from Liu Ming.<\/p>\n You can hear more about our approach to Daoist cultivation throughout this blog and my website, which has a few recorded talks.\u00a0 You can also view a welcome video at the Old Oak School of Dao YouTube channel<\/a>.\u00a0 In addition, toward the end of 2020 I started issuing a monthly Dark Moon Newsletter<\/a>, which focuses on a basic look at Chinese almanac-astrology and includes links to any new blog posts or upcoming offerings.\u00a0 I enjoy corresponding with people who are sincerely committed to the path, so please\u00a0feel free to contact me.<\/p>\n Stability & openness,<\/p>\n Jacob Newell (\u7121\u540d\u5ddd)<\/p>\n oldoakdao@yahoo.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Hello, my name is Jacob Newell.\u00a0 I formerly went by Gu Shen Yu (\u8c37\u795e\u94b0), a name I received at Daoist ordination, but really I’m just a nameless stream flowing along with the Great River of immortality.\u00a0 So call me Nameless Stream, Wuming Chuan (\u7121\u540d\u5ddd) for now.
