{"id":200,"date":"2018-09-06T07:12:28","date_gmt":"2018-09-06T15:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oldoakdao.org\/blog\/?p=200"},"modified":"2018-09-15T09:20:24","modified_gmt":"2018-09-15T17:20:24","slug":"one-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oldoakdao.org\/blog\/2018\/09\/06\/one-thing\/","title":{"rendered":"One Thing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Daoism has a great many fascinating conceptual principles and practice methods.\u00a0 But our Daoism is really only about one thing \u2013 bringing in the raw, creative power of Dao.<\/p>\n<p>If we\u2019re always doing this or doing that \u2013 even if it\u2019s some fascinating and profound spiritual practice \u2013 Dao will just keep yielding to our movement forever.\u00a0 It\u2019s not very assertive \u2013 it just sits back, staying hidden and silent, allowing us to do as we please.<\/p>\n<p>But if we take up the mantle of yin \u2013 empty ourselves completely \u2013 this provides a space for the shy power of Dao to come through.\u00a0 As Laozi suggests, it\u2019s like we have to become a passive, quiet, and submissive maiden to encourage the reluctant Dao to bring forth its own yang.<\/p>\n<p>If we\u2019re not clear about this one thing, then it really doesn\u2019t matter whether we can perform the myriad methods \u2013 we\u2019re simply technicians operating in the dark.\u00a0 But if we are clear about this one thing, then we can use the myriad methods to effectively support our practice.<\/p>\n<p>The raw power comes down from above and enters though the top of the head.\u00a0 The entry point is the soft spot just in front of the crown \u2013 the fontanel.\u00a0 We want to keep this spot soft like a newborn baby\u2019s.\u00a0 We also want to avoid too much thinking or exertion and just let the incoming power settle down to the lower dantian.\u00a0 From there it will gather and grow, rebounding to reach the fingers and toes and every pore of the skin, pervading the entire body.\u00a0 It\u2019s like bathing in a sweet elixir all the way through.\u00a0 Foundational practices are so important to enable us to receive this power without collapsing or going crazy.\u00a0 Keeping the head open and the base stable in formal practice and the moment-to-moment informal conduct of our daily lives is the central method of wuweidao.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-202 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/oldoakdao.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/hex42-a.gif\" alt=\"Hexagram 42\" width=\"130\" height=\"137\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;Yi&#8221; (Hexagram 42) courtesy of LiSe Lotti Voute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daoism has a great many fascinating conceptual principles and practice methods.\u00a0 But our Daoism is really only about one thing \u2013 bringing in the raw, creative power of Dao.
